Theatre Guild Valdosta

Located at 122 N Ashley St, Valdosta, GA 31601. In the downtown area of Valdosta, the Theatre Guild of Valdosta is a not for profit organization whose mission is to present the community with a quality performing arts experience. The organization produces four main stage productions and two children's productions each year.

The organization is housed in the 'Dosta Movie Theater, a restored and renovated movie house that opened in 1941. The theater was part of the Martin Theatre chain, which operated a chain of theaters in the late '40s and '50s. The theater reopened briefly in 1977, before closing down in 1979. It was one of several theaters in the area. A local arts center helped restore the theater to its former glory. It is a small theater, but it is one of only two Martin theatres left in the area. The other being the Art Moderne movie palace, which opened in the '40s. Next article.

The theatre has undergone a complete makeover with new carpet and paint in 2007. The theatre is located in the 'Dosta Theater District, a growing area of downtown Valdosta, Georgia. Currently, the theatre is in the middle of a capital campaign to raise $100 for improvements. The theater has two levels, a main stage and an upstairs balcony. The theater is a fun, family friendly place to watch a show. In addition, the theatre is a hub for community theater groups to perform their theatrical works.

The Theatre Guild of Valdosta also boasts a small youth division, which sponsors plays for children. A recent survey uncovered that more than 50 percent of the local youth population attends a theatre performance at some point in their lives. While the theater is not a large venue, it is a nice place to take the kids to see a show.

The Theatre Guild of Valdosta has done its part to help revitalize the downtown area. In addition to performing the aforementioned show, it serves a nice dinner at four of the bigger shows each year. The theater has a full cast of talented all-volunteer players, and its success is largely due to the dedication and enthusiasm of its members. In fact, it is the largest all-volunteer organization of its kind in the state of Georgia. The group also holds an annual fundraiser and a large number of social events. As such, it is not surprising that the theatre has enjoyed a resurgence in popularity over the years.

The Theatre Guild of Valdosta deserves a nod for the many fine performances they have delivered over the years. The Theatre of Valdosta's website is a good starting point for more information about the theater and the group's events. The website also has a calendar of upcoming performances, a downloadable PDF of the theatre's recent history and a link to the organization's Facebook page. The organization's marquee productions include A Little Murder, The Magic of Small Things and The Magic of Small Things 2; if you're looking to experience a show from the ground up, a visit to the theatre is the way to go.
