Located in southern Georgia, Valdosta is known as the Azalea City and offers visitors a variety of entertainment and exciting attractions. Whether you are a fan of thrill rides or simply looking for good food, there are plenty of things to do in Valdosta. This is a popular tourist destination year round, but during the springtime the city is enveloped in a canopy of color.
A variety of historic buildings are scattered throughout the city. Most of these buildings were constructed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, but they are still a part of the city's rich history. The Valdosta Heritage Foundation is dedicated to preserving these buildings.

The Wisenbaker-Roberts house is a National Register of Historic Places landmark in the Fairview National Register Historic District. It is located on Knight Academy Road. A octagon-shaped schoolhouse is also found in the district. The Crescent Mansion was built in the late 19th century for former U.S. senator William Stanley West. It is a gorgeous home with lovely stained glass windows and Victorian-style white columns. It is now home to The Garden Center of Valdosta.
The Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts is the centerpiece of Valdosta's art scene. It features local and national artists' work and hosts a variety of events. The facility also includes a Martha G. Smart Gallery, a Dedo Maranville Fine Arts Gallery, and a permanent exhibit titled "Azaleas: The Story of Flower Power." There are also free concerts held at the Lowndes County Courthouse, which is located on the city's central square.
The city of Valdosta is home to several championship sports teams. The Peach State Summer Theatre, Georgia's Official Musical Theatre, puts on three musicals each summer. The city is also home to the NCAA Division II National Football Championship. Valdosta State University is also located in the city and is considered to be one of the top colleges in the state.
Downtown Valdosta is one of the city's most important districts. This district is filled with boutique shops and restaurants, and is also a great pedestrian-friendly area. In the 1950s and 1960s, this area suffered a decline in population, but the 1980s brought a renewed era of prosperity. The city is now a cultural hub, and its historic buildings are now being preserved.
